From one of my favorite movies ..."Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." Yes, Ferris Bueller was right. We all get very involved in life and the day to day activities that we sometimes forget what is near, dear, and important to our hearts. Today it is so easy to send a text, leave a voicemail, or Facebook that, in my opinion, we loose touch with the basic forms of communication...a firm handshake, a bear hug, and a kiss on the cheek. Technology is great, but will never replace those aforementioned items. I have had the recent pleasure of reconnecting with family. My Uncle Bud, and my parents best friends from a long time ago from Lakewood Village (whom I also consider my other Mom and Dad...Myrna and Geoff). I can not thank you all enough for everything you have done for me. I love you all. Geoff and Bud, you are two of the strongest men I have ever known...outside of Sonny. You fight like hell and never give up! Livestrong my friends! I also want to share some information my Uncle shared with me about my Dad from his military career. He was a member of the Golden Knights Parachute Team from the 82nd. They made demonstration jumps all over the country and Europe. My Dad and his crazy buddies pioneered many of the Special Operations parachute techniques, like parasails, that are taken for granted now. My Dad had something like 700+ freefall chute openings while he was on the Golden Knights Team. He once got into a real jam with his C.O. when he horsed around and pulled the cord at only 250 feet. No one ever knew of anyone ever making such a low opening and surviving. Most openings were done at 850 feet and that was plenty enough for most. Below is a picture of my Dad's two favorite things back in the day...his hunting dog, and me...

Southern Style Snow Storm

Okay...here is your new blog post! We are alive and well after a six month hiatus. Thank you Aunt Debbie for pointing that out. We survived the blizzard of 2010! The snow fall started last Friday night with hell bent furry...Saturday morning we saw in our neighborhood about 7 inches of snow. Officially Columbia had 8.6 inches of snow, the fifth greatest amount of snowfall in the history of Columbia dating back to the late 1800's! Jackson was in absolute Heaven playing in the snow. Ran around in circles, rode in a sled, threw snowballs at Mom and Dad, ate snow, chased the girls, built a snow woman with Dad, went down for a nap at noon...woke up at three and said..."Daddy where did all my snow go?" Snow Southern Style my Son!

Prayers and well wishes go out to Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa. A spring came out of fellow competitor and friend Rubens Barrichello's Ferrari at 120 miles per hour and impacted Massa's helmet causing multiple open severe skull fractures, unconsciousness and a subsequent crash into the barriers at the Hungarian Gran Prix.

Just had one of those priceless moments you always wish for as a Dad with my daughter Charlee. The faint sounds of tears running down her face turned into the thunderous steps of a wildebeest heading down the stairs. She came to me wanting comfort, which I provided at the dinner table with a cold cup of milk, a nutty bar, caring and calming words of wisdom and support.
Shortly thereafter milk mustache smiles abound and a little snuggle time with Mom made the world just right.

Hug the ones you love and always take the time for milk and nutty bars.

Day Trip

Nothing like a two hour drive to the beach in the motor home to blow out the cobwebs. Jackson takes after his Momma, loves the beach and the ocean. Had so much fun we decided to camp overnight at James Island State Park so we could go back to the beach in the morning. Discovered Jackson loves doughnuts.

Snow...Columbia Style

Well it came...and went...total snow time about 5 hours. Schools closed, City and State offices opened at 11:00. God forbid we ever get real accumulation in Columbia, would have to call out the National Guard.

The kids were in Heaven, Jackson went crazy with excitement seeing his first snow and could not wait to get outside. Tanner built a 6 inch snowman that is slowly melting in our beer fridge in the garage.

Winter Storm Advisory?

Only in South Carolina...We received a call from the school about 30 minutes ago indicating that school will be cancelled tomorrow due to the forecasted Storm Advisory! Better make a run to the local grocery to stock up on milk, bread, wine, and beer. We were told when we moved here that if there is potential for or actual snow and ice that the city shuts down...Now we know!

Second Annual Woodcrest Halloween Parade

Yes I know almost a month ago but catching up. As some of you know Halloween is my favorite Holiday. When else can I dress up, act like an idiot and get away with it? Loaded question, easy now. We held our Second Annual Halloween Parade this year at our house and had big fun. We went as the Frankenfamily! We provided chili, hot dogs, adult "Ritas", and kids "Ritas". Everyone else brought side dishes, hot apple cider, hot chocolate, beer, wine, chips, dip, deserts (oh my) and three cases of wonderful noise makers. Think of a very irritating hoard of bees on steroids flying at Mach 3 around your head. That is the sound...over and over again...43 kids showed up in costume as parents lined the street (we were the only adults who dressed up). We paraded, some on scotters, in wagons, on tricycles, bicycles, and golf carts to the end of the street and back to our garage for diner where we ate and drank like Kings before heading out to trick or treat. Never before have I seen our "Rita" machines go empty in less than 30 minutes. Luckily several adult participants were hell bent on more margaritas and off to the liquor store they went. We of course had to oblige them.

Jackson had a great time on his first real trick or treating venture. We loaded he and Tootles in the wagon and off we went. He would smile as we went to the door and say "Teet" but he wanted to go inside and see their houses as well. After hitting about half a dozen houses with him we headed back to party central to find the adults maintaining security by the roadside impromptu bon fire. There we had about five families side by side all with our buffet line of candy for the kids to take. Afterwards the kids came inside for the candy exchange. Big fun was had by all.

Chimney Rock

Took a family day trip to Chimney Rock Park in North Carolina several weeks ago and had a fantastic time. We were about a week too early for the foliage to change but there were hints of natures wonder beginning to bloom vibrant colors of orange, yellow, red, and burgundy. This park has roots deep in our Country's history. In early 1870 a man by the name of Jerome Freeman purchased Chimney Rock and 40o acres from speculators for a whopping $25.00 (yes twenty-five dollars) with ambitions of opening a trail and public facility to the top of the rock. But it was in 1902 when things really began to take shape. A Missourian by the name of Lucious B. Morse, a physician, and his brothers purchased 64 acres of land including the Chimney and Cliffs for $5000. The Park now encompasses over 1000 acres and until 2007 was owned and operated by the Morse family. The State of NC and other partners purchased the park late in 2007 for $24 million dollars to serve as the main stage of a new state park. Several movies have been made over the years in the park such as: The Last of the Mohican's, Firestarter, A Breed Apart, and Dirty Dancing.

The truly amazing feature is the "Chimney" which is solid granite and houses a 198 foot tunnel leading to a 258 elevator shaft. Construction of this project took 18 months to complete with the aid of 8 tons of dynamite and no fatalities. Pretty amazing for something that opened to the public in 1949. It was honestly a bit unnerving walking into the tunnel leading to the elevator. It would not have been so bad but we had to wait in line for about 20 minutes (under ground) to take a 12 second ride to the top. Upon exiting the elevator we were treated to unbelievable views that even the pictures don't do justice.

The kids were in Heaven, running around, peering over the edge of the railing, making me very, very nervous. I had Jackson on my back in a pack which was great expect for the fact that I really don't like heights and he was very intent on getting out and running around with Tanner and Charlee. Now to put this in perspective, the top of the Chimney is about the size of let's say an oversized two car driveway. Only it is a rock, not a flat rock bit more like a giant wierd shaped mushroom. Now put another 40 people with you on that little piece of real estate and you have yourself one of those moments that is very difficult to smile for the camera. Obviously I was the only one this seemed to bother. From the top we hiked down the trail through the diverse plants and land features to the water falls which was one the the most breathtaking sights I have seen. Beathtaking on two levels, one the sheer beauty of the park and two the fact that I had Jackson on my back, thank God we were going down hill. Being the geek that I am I counted all the steps, man made, we walked down to the bottom...748! What a work out, my legs were shaking the whole drive home, thankfully the cruise control worked.

After leaving the park we had a great Italian dinner complete with two ice cold beers a piece to relax the legs at a place that overlooked Lake Lure. We watched the sun set over the mountain and had the literally thousands of lady bugs fluttering throughout the rays of sun around the outdoor deck. Amazing.

The ride home was rather quiet and everyone slept like the proverbial "rock". If you are ever in the area put this trip on your planner.

My Blackberry World phone took a dive in the old crapper. Thankfully I purchased insurance and now have a new Blackberry Curve. Much better phone, I really don't know why the salesman talked me into the other one. How often do I need a phone that works anywhere in the world? The Curve has all the same features as well as a camera and video recorder. However, I did notice that this little bundle of technology will be available shortly. Don't get me wrong you Mac users, I love my iPod touch but the service for the iPhone here in Cola is spotty and this new phone looks cool. These are a couple of shots from the new phone.

Life as it comes...

Life moves at you pretty fast, and if you are not quite prepared it can smack you in the face.

Jackson and I had our first trip to the ER room...our kitchen bench, weighing about 20 pounds, fell over on his toe...ugly...in the ER for over 5 hours in the waiting room and Xrays...met with the ER Doc for...get this less than 10 minutes and he tells me at 12:45a.m...sorry for the wait...nothing we can do...$850 dollars later...our boy is good. Dad very tired, Doc even asked if I needed a note for my employer to relieve me for being late the next morning...I declined...But thanks!

Keep in mind the simple things in Life make all other stresses just go away...Enjoy the smiles from friends and family that come your way. Small or large...just enjoy!

Oh and by the way I put on my big boy bibs and took off with the Wednesday night ride and got my ass dropped. Damn, nothing like getting back in the saddle! At least Summit Cycles provided nice cold Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Becks for post ride refreshments. Looking forward to the Friday night Beer ride.

Category Five: (JC5) JC is nowhere to be found....

Second Part....Panic in the streets fueled by the Media...

Left work today to find Two Notch Road completely packed with traffic. Thought it was a big wreck, not too uncommon. But soon found the gas stations packed with vehicles lined up waiting for fuel. One BP Station had approximately 30 cars waiting on fuel, the next had about 18...Word on the street is that fuel lines are shut down, prices will increase one dollar overnight, and rationing will come into effect. The photo is from a station in Sumter SC about 30 miles from us.

We resisted the hysteria of loading up our vehicles and heading to the stations to top off our tanks with the majority of Columbia. However, I did make a stop off on the way home at our local grocery for two gallons of milk, a six pack of pale ale, and a bottle of Merlot. I figured that would, get us through the next couple of days. And hell worst case scenario I can work from my home office or even ride my BIKE to work. What a concept. Those in the Gulf, take care and buckle down Ike is a big mother scratcher.

Greenville County Road Trip

Took a road trip today to Greenville to see the US National Road Racing Championships. Beautiful weather, great city for all things outdoors, fantastic crowds, and incredibly talented pro cyclists. Eclectic shops, fine dining, great burgers, the river walk, and cold beer brought out all types of fans and those who just wanted to get out and see what all this racing hype is all about. The crowds were not disappointed. Brad Huff was off the front all day making a great show for himself. First off in a two man break on lap two and remained in the main break which at one point had almost 3:30 seconds on the peleton. He remained in the break fighting hard for the better part of four hours until the final trip up over Paris Mountain. If you don't know Brad, you should. Great guy, funny, smart, determined, and fast as hell, big things will come for Brad, he has only just begun. Oh yeah, and he has a very interesting pre-race warm up. How about stretching and some jumping jacks. Seems to work for him!

Big George, the home town favorite was riding well with one team mate in Craig Lewis and was in the hunt until final laps. (Thanks go out to Hincapie Sports and the Team Bus with the big flat screen with the live race feed for us fans without the $100 hospitality passes.) I had the small, vocal, beer drinking crowd all cheering for Brad at the bus. But the day belonged to Rock Racing. Mike Creed in the break with Brad all day and finally Tyler Hamilton had what is takes to earn the stars and bars next year. Tyler edged out Blake Caldwell from Garmin-Chipolte by 2 one-hundredths of a second at the line. The guys at Rock not only look good, but like it or not appear to be the real deal. They now have two US Championship jerseys to sport next year.

I also watched some future racers, saw some interesting art, creative hair styles, sweet bikes from Litespeed, Storck, and Cervelo. If you get the chance to come to Carolina, put Greenville on your itinerary, this is truly a town that has it all.

Folly Beach South Carolina

Charlotte USA Crit Series Day Trip

We loaded up the motor home and headed up I-77 to Charlotte to see the USA Crit Series Saturday. The setting was incredible, downtown Charlotte at dusk with my family. We had a great lunch at Ristorante Uno, headed uptown to the Discovery Center Museum (which was fantastic) and then to the start line of the race. We missed the women's race but got in some great family bonding time in the motorhome The boy's however, did not disappoint! The man of the night was Alejandro Borrajo who took a close sprint at the end over Health Net's Frank Pipp. It was full out from the gun, attack after attack that were reeled in until Bissell's Ted King went on a six lap solo flyer, but as the laps ticked down the peleton reeled him back. It was great to hear the crowd going nuts when the announcer would call out a $1000 dollar prime...several times throughout the night. Charlotte was a great setting for the Crit that had an incredible blend of people who were decked out for dinner in fine dinning establishments, those who were obviously out to meet the right person for the night, a second story outdoor patio bar with an ecletic blend of 30 something professionals to bikers all tatooed up. Next year we will however be a little more prepared. Fans had staked out the premier corners with tents, coolers, buffet tables, and music. Next year we will not be outdone! Watch for the Inmon clan in the corner with the tent and coolers! Enjoy the pics.

Despite the daily grind of work, family, and life in general there is no excuse for so much time to pass between post's. The Inmon family is doing well here in South Carolina. We are just moving along at the speed of life. The kids are growing like the proverbial weed and if I don't get back to a normal riding schedule very soon I may just qualify for the job as the Macy's day parade Santa Claus...Our trip to big MO was good despite the circumstances. It was good to see friends and family albeit short. My friends Yoak, Smitty, Hilgers, Stegall, Roberts, Blinn, and Humader thanks for taking time to have a cold beer. Matt thanks for the lake hospitality the kids loved the boat and it was so great to see them get up on ski's. Great coaching. Mom, Stac, Kaiser, Ann, Beth, and Debbie thanks so much for everything and of course the great hospitality. Too many other people to mention at this hour but great to see everyone.

Springtown Bound

We are loading up the family truckster and headed back to Springtown. Unfortunately our purpose if to attend the funeral of my wife's "Mimi" her grandmother who passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning July 1st. Mimi had a fantastic life and lived to be 99years of age. She will be deeply missed by all especially her "Sugar Kisses" she so loved to give. The great thing is that she is now in Heaven with God, Jesus, and her family that departed before. God bless you Mimi!

We are planning on a weeks stay if possible and I am bringing my road bike. If anyone is up to a very slow recovery ride I would be happy to join you.

The Beer Ride

Well I made it! Slow but felt quite good on the bike. Not Pro Brad good. It is damn good to see him kicking ass in the peloton. Keep up the good work my friend. The turnout for the ride was big, about 45 riders. Only about 101 degrees at ride time, but twenty two miles later we had cold beer waiting for us at Beef O'Brady's and was it refreshing. Found myself in a sprint a quarter of a mile to the finish behind an older gentleman with a rack on the back of his bike that could hold a six pack, I swung out in his slipstream and flew by him digging deep flying at about a 29 mph pace until I was blue in the face. I took one look over my shoulder and bam...he flew by me like I was sitting still. Wow, nothing like getting your ass handed to you by old Mr. touring bike guy.

No, we are not playing hide and seek. That is the forecast for the next three days! Terri and I are headed up to the town center tonight to do a little beer tasting at the Wine, beer, cigar, and other goodies shop. Tomorrow night I will once again throw my leg over the old bike and hit the Friday night beer ride for the first time this year. I just hope I can hang on with the adults pulling their kid trailers...

Well I had grandiose ideas of live updates and photos from the road but too much going on to pull it off. So I have nothing on Cycling News! Some cool pics and updates from our quick family vacation down to Tybee Island, Savannah, and Augusta to see the first two stages of the Tour. Will try to update additional pics and story tomorrow. Jelly Belly and Rock Racing were the Jam, both teams really embraced Tanner and Charlee. Wish we could have seen Brad race. We now have two really excited young cyclists. Quite a bit has happened here in Cola, not sure where to start so hold on, here we go! First of all I have our One Year Old Son Jackson sitting in my lap trying to help me with this post. Thankfully we have spell check and the all too convenient backspace key. (Okay, well three weeks ago when I started this post he was on my lap...but now just finishing.

St. Patty's Day Family Celebration in Five Points (Damn we look good in Green)
Tornado's ripped through Columbia, surrounding areas, and our neighborhood (thankfully the twister jumped over our subdivision but unfortunately hit the one just past ours) I sure as hell thought we left that damn stuff when we moved from MO. The crazy thing is we did not think too much of it because Cola does not have storm sirens! Pretty devastating storm, approximately 89 homes destroyed
Tanner is kicking goals and taking names at our YMCA soccer league. Could be the great coaching by me!

Work...busy, thank God
Lent is over...it appears I gave up cycling instead of beer...
Road trip to one of SC's great State Parks about 20 miles from Augusta for a weekend in the motor home on Lake Thurmond. Yes, Strom Thurmond was big in SC
Easter weekend and Jackson's first birthday spent in the great outdoors
Yes, we spent Easter weekend in the "Church of the Great Outdoors" and his creation was beautiful
Terri and Jackson are in Springfield for the week, Terri's sister (one of five) Kathy passed away Saturday night (prayers go out to her and her family)
This house is really quiet without them
The kids kick my butt in Nintendo Wii
Taking a family vacation in the motor home for the first two stages of the Tour De Georgia (Tybee Island camp site first night, Savannah second night, driving to Augusta to see the finish of Stage two) really excited

Got a new grill (very cool) and overheard the kids telling Terri how she has missed great dinners this week (made me feel really good)
Tanner received his Reading Counts T-shirt-award for great reading!
Jackson is walking like a retired man out at the mall
Congrats to my friend Jimmy on the news of a new baby daughter (best wishes my friend, truly the greatest thing you will ever experience)

Time for Lent...and some other stuff

Well it is that time of year where we as Episcopilians and other religions celebrate Lent. The definition is as follows: Lent is the period of fasting, penitence, and self-denial traditionally observed by Christians in preparation for Easter. In Western Christianity, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, six and a half weeks before Easter. It ends on Holy Saturday, the last day of Holy Week, which immediately precedes Easter Sunday. This year, for those of you who know me please sit down at this time, I am giving up one of the greatest gifts known to man...BEER. Yes it is true, but in great Fat Tuesday tradition, I am enjoying a cold Sierra Nevada Pale Ale with a couple of his brothers awaiting my presence in the beer fridge in the garage. I may be a bit fuzzy in the morning. Don't think I did not prepare with a trip to Greens for a stock up on wine, I might add. This also begins my training period for cycling/racing this year in Cola and the souringing areas. I may be the slowest, fattest, Cat 5 out there, but I will be racing. Stay tuned for updates.

Speaking of racing, I saw our Springfield Pro in his new Jelly Belly team kit on their website, looking pretty good Bradley, have a great season, best of luck.

Now just a few updated pics of the family. Jackson, Charlee, and Tanner are growing like weeds and never cease to amaze me with their humor as well as the things that come out of their mouths. We also participated in our annual neighborhood Polar Bear Plunge. Dressed up as Pirates and took the plunge. We even made the Life section of The State newpaper. Granted the air temp was a balmy 55 degrees the water was only 51 degrees. Let me tell you, 51 degrees takes the boy's into harbination and your breath away. But big fun was had by all and about $10,000 raised for the Childrens Charities of Columbia.

Well enough said, more beer awaits me in the garage. Enjoy the pictures.

Clydesdale...

Yep, it is true...I am officailly a big ass Clydesdale Cat 5 wanna be racer. But we, as a family, have joined the YMCA as of yesterday...I can already feel the fat dropping of my big ole new found Southern ass (Terri's cooking is so good and BEER is even BETTER)...It does take a hell of a man to hold onto your 10 month old while walking around the track above the ball court all the while trying to keep up with your wife-Terri, son Tanner (hurry up dad and don't drop Jackson), and Charlee Ann (daughter-why are you so slow dad) around the track...but hell...I am at least moving while carying an extra 25 pounds...on my arm...not my gut...okay maybe my gut...

From the track we decided to hit the pool for a few laps (no Speedo's...But one Sponge Bob swim Suit)...and Jackson and I tried to keep up with the rest of the gang. He was a big fan of the water (albeit quite cold) and especially the female lifeguard. That is my boy! We had great fun! I was even able to get in a few laps by myself. (I must say that I used to be quite the man in the water, just not tonight). Yes I will brag! The only A I had at Mizzou was the Water Safey Instructor Class. This was really a cool class, seriously...the instructor was the old flame of the Original "Tarzan" Johny Wiessmuller! I shit you not! They were old Olympic swimmers together. And out of the 35 students in the class, there where only two "A's"(me one of them...the rest where all D's...she was hard core. ) The even wilder part of the class was that the pool's bottom and sides were all tiled in a deep green color...think about it....standing atop the diving board at 8 feet above water level looking below into a pool that is essentially non-visual below the surface...kind oflike jumping into a pond without knowing what is below....

Anyway...as my Granny Hazel is so fond of saying,

It amazes me how my Charlee Ann and Jackson are growing up so fast. And a big congrats to my friend Jimmy St. Louis, see what you have to look forward to! Great cycling here in Cola...y'all come on down. The roads are great, off road even better, camo is king, beaches and mountains are within two hours. Ride on!

Out at night

The still quiet of the evening was shattered by the distinct and all too familiar sound of my left cleat engaging into the long lost and deprived blue speed play pedal, my lungs filled with the cold night air as I inhaled deeply in anticipation of my right cleat hitting the mark to become one with my bike. I exhaled forcefully pushing first with my non-surgically repaired right leg forcing hot air into the lenses of my clear sunglasses, momentarily clouding my vision with steam. My backside moved slowly, on to my Alliante saddle and like an old familiar friend we pushed out into the night sky.

The clouds hung low and heavy with moisture this Carolina night, creating eerie refractions in the flickering gas lights of our neighborhood. Riding at night all you hear are the thoughts in your mind, wandering, thinking, wishing, and dreaming. As you turn your head slowly from side to side you create sounds from the wind whistling through the vents of your helmet and around your ears, a sound that warms your heart like the laughs of children frivolously playing with no cares in the world. Only tonight, this was my playground, I again was the boy with no cares just speed, silence, and the comfort of the dark night.

My body took little time to reacquaint itself with the saddle, crisp white cork tape, and carbon soles. I found myself beaming like a kid at Christmas as I raced through the round abouts in the neighborhood, my own personal crit course where I was attacking and leading the racers, not daring to look back for fear of loosing my advantage over the demons in my mind.

Faster and faster I would pedal leaning my body hard into the turns weighing my outside pedal forcefully down to hold my position as I would coast through the left to right esses back and forth racing again and again through the same turns trying to pick up my speed, my form, and fight off the demons from behind me.

Cold sweat began to form upon my brow, dripping down the clear lenses of my glasses; headlights from passing cars would momentarily fatigue my vision as the light penetrated the salt filled droplets on my shields. But I did not care.

I was once again one with my bike, not a care in the world, fantasizing of form, fitness, speed, and skill. Tonight was my Tuesday Night World Championship, my solo sprint to the County Line sign, my freight train pull for miles as I drag my team behind in my slipstream.

This was my time, back on the bike, back to my passion.

We had these taken a week ago at the local JC Penny at Sandhills for Christmas and Jackson's nine month baby pictures. The solo pic of him in the blue outfit is really similar to one my parents had taken of me when I was about six months old. If you see "Granny Jan" out and about ask her about the pic of Jackson, we look so very similar except for the fact that I had fat rolls down both legs. Hell I looked like the Michelin Man's baby!

Christmas in Carolina

Well too much time has passed since last post...getting to be a bad habit. Lot's of stuff has been going on here in Cola. We have been through a season of flag football with Tanner (he was the team MVP, Mr. Hustle, and leading tackler/flag puller) yes, I am really proud of him. Charlee Ann turned 8 December 17th she now has a new pair of Rollerblades and is not afraid to use them, Jackson has started crawling, Terri and I went to a Carolina Panther game (Club Level seats and treatment does not suck), I have a great new position at work, and we have been in Carolina for a year now. Wow! Pretty unbelievable to say the least.

I will get you all caught up later, but for now, Merry Christmas. I hope that you all enjoyed a great day with your friends and families and remember what the true meaning of Christmas really is all about.

Jackson's first Christmas was great, I think Tanner and Charlee enjoyed it as much for him as Terri and I, they are really great kids. We ate great food all day, from Terri's homemade Cinnamon rolls, her strada, my mimosa's, to my Christmas dinner of rib roast, Granny's green beans, and Mom's corn casserole. Enjoy the pics and yes...I know the damn strand of lights above the garage went out.

Terri and I hosted an open house for the C-21 agents I work with last Friday night. It was a casual atmosphere highlighted with "Rita", a mexican buffett with all the fixin's, great desserts, wine, door prizes, and imprinted "Stress Sombrero's". It was a great success, the kids all hung out with my Realtors, Tanner played the piano, Charlee was the designated drawing girl for the door prizes and of course Jackson was passed from person to person. This will be a great opportunity for me working with the C-21 agents. What was really funny to Terri and I, could have been the Rita's was what we found labeled in the shoe box from Charlee...Not PC...but pretty funny.

Today Terri called the house to which Charlee answered in her best Southern drawl, "Thank you for calling Pizza Hut, how can I help you?" What have I created! Got to love our girl Charlee!

Halloween my favorite holiday! And what a great evening we had...started out with a ghoulish parade from our house to the end of the street and back...many small children, therefore not a huge route and in Southern Pride...led by a riding lawn mower pulling her kids in a trailer! Gotta love it. Big fun was had by all. We set up a buffet in our garage and all our neighbors helped out with the food, from our main man next door, Steve R's chicken wings, to Terri's seasoned baked pumpkin seeds we had all the "fixins". Not to mention Rita was in full force. Hope you all had a great Halloween as well. 10/19/2007...My Birthday

Well Happy BDay to me! What a great day this has been. 39 years ago today I made my way into this world. The happy baby boy to a great Sonny and Jan Inmon. The day started off to a little unhappy whimper...well alright just make it a cry from our boy Jackson at 6:25, but then alluded to snuggle time with Dad, which was wonderful, while Terri, Tanner, and Charlee Ann worked on my cake (clueless was I). About 7:00 Jackson and I finally got out of bed to find a huge fire storm of candles upon my cake, not too bad having a little coffee and cake for breakfast! I will spare you all the Gorey details of my work day and get right to the end where Terri, Jackson, and I headed up to the Town Center to have a little happy hour/wine tasting and some neighborhood bonding. What a great place we live in, always meeting new friends/neighbors from so many different backgrounds. Anyway...as my favorite Granny Hazel always says...a pretty perfect day. I got a Gamecock logo for my truck, some great clothes, and the coup de gras...an electric edger...now our lawn will look so professional. Thank you Terri, Tanner, and Charlee, and you too Jackson. Now it is late and I must post a few pictures of our boy before I head to bed. I am going to see the Gamecocks beat the Vandy Commodores tomorrow with our neighbor Kelley. The results are in, the racers are gone, the champions were crowned, but the memories for me will never end. For this bike geek, wanna be racer that has such passion for the sport this weekend was the best. If I can only find a way to support my family while working in this industry...I am there.

The weekend for me was incredible on so many levels, obviously the whole US Pro Time Trial and Road Championships were a major factor in that, but also just spending time with my wife (who by the way loves the sport and racing), our son Jackson, (Tan and Charlee were with their Dad but would have loved it) our friends Mike and Linda who live in Greenville, and catching up with my friend and PRO racer, Brad Huff!

I had grandiose plans for a detailed breakdown of the racing split times etcetera but I am sure you who are in the know have already seen the whole recap from Cycling News and or VeloNews. I will give you all a little insight however, Brad looks to be in good form for the Tour of MO. His time/form in the TT was good and he put himself out there as the sacrificial lamb during the first three laps of the road race just killing it. That boy is a horse! Put your head down and pedal my friend, everything will fall into place. I did my best to do a little PR on his behalf to some other teams for next year. Get out there this week and support himin the Tour of MO! For those of you who can or want to, come on out next year we would love to have you. I hope you enjoy the pics from Saturday's TT. We were able to snap some pretty cool pictures.

It is HOT!

We have been trying to get settled back in after our whirlwind trip to Missouri. Things have been pretty crazy here with catching up at work to the kids starting school last Monday. It is hard to believe that Charlee is now a second grader and Tanner is a "leader" of the school as an upper class man in the 5th grade.

The big news this month has been the heat, it is freaking hot! Now MO was hot and humid, but this is unbelievable. This takes heat and humidity to a whole new level. I can now understand the statement by the former Gamecock coach, Lou Holtz, declaring that he had no idea he was working at the screen door to Hell! The graphic was in "The State" newspaper yesterday, keep in mind those were actual temperatures. The heat indices got up to around 115 degrees!

Anyway, it will be great in January when it is 60 degrees out!

Trip to Springfield

The time is drawing near for our return to the SPR and we are looking forward to our time spent with family and friends. It will be a whirlwind trip trying to fit in everything from seeing everyone, or everyone wanting to see our kids, my twenty year class reunion both Friday and Saturday nights and Jackson's baptism on Sunday. With a short window of time we have been pretty stressed trying to figure out how to make it all work. To help facilitate seeing everyone our dear friend Lisa offered to have a pool party Sunday afternoon, August 12th, at her house. This is a more the merrier function, come one come all and pass the word to those who may not know about the blog. For all my friends that read my useless ramblings I would love to have you come by. We will be cooking a brisket so bring a side dish, your beverage of choice, your swimsuits, and your kids (if applicable). If you think there is a chance you may come by please leave a response or email me so we know how much meat to prepare.

We took a family excursion last weekend to the Upstate to see Terri's best friend from High school Linda and her family. Mike and Linda are truly great people and we had a great visit. They threw an awesome party complete with all the fixins'. Carolina barbecued pulled pork and smoked chicken, shrimp, salads, coleslaw, and too many desserts to mention. No wonder I am ten pounds overweight...We took "Rita" and served her fantastic frozen margarita's and Mike had his fridge packed so full of beer it would make the folks at Brown Derby jealous.

Greenville is a great town, very outdoor activity friendly, home to a certain George Hincapie, location for the US Pro Cycling Championships http://www.usacyclingchampionships.com/index.php, and much more. We are heading back up for the Pro Championships in September and look forward to spending more time with Mike and Linda.

Friday Night Beer Ride...Northeast

Cola now has two Beer rides, the one that goes on Downtown through Fort Jackson and back to Bar None and one that starts right in my neighborhood's Town Center at Bambino's pizza. The forecast for Friday was pretty sketchy with rain, hail, lightning, and high winds but I had been planning on this ride all week and was not going to miss it. My lovely wife gave me a little extra incentive with her exclamation that "for the love of Pete, if you can't ride from our house to the Town Center you shouldn't be riding!" It is only about one minute to the Center. So I opted for the ride from our neighborhood. Upon arrival, I checked out the participants...quite a bit of diversity, from Mom and Pops to some seemingly hard core racers. I felt like I was being sized up with many glances wondering who the hell is this big oaf on the huge bike sporting his OCC team kit. Well boy's I didn't disappoint. I hung out in the back of the pack for the first several miles until I felt comfortable with the group and of course my poor pack riding skills. But it came back to me with ease. Many nervous moments with riders who need lots of practice in a pace line however. I made my way to the front slowly feeling out the riders who knew how to ride and quickly found a friend who is about three inches taller than me with legs the size of tree trunks. We were about 8 riders back on this one section when the ride leader took off on a flyer, Patrick looked over at me and said do you want to get him. A quick nod and we were off, thank goodness it was on a flat section. Before too long we had reeled him in doing about 35 mph. That was fun!
Soon after the skies opened up and down came the rain, hard pounding rain! I almost felt childish, like a 10 year old out on his bike splashing through the rain soaked roads with no cares in the world. That was very refreshing, a jump start for my batteries. Heading back in to our neighborhood, Steven the ride leader/Cat something racer indicated this was our sprint section and off we went. Again thankful the road was rather flat, I made my move from about 6 riders back all the while eating the rooster tail spray from the wet tarmac thrown up by the riders in front of me. As I passed this sketchy tri-guy on an old Trek 1000 his frame pump came loose, luckily he was able to grab it before it lodged in his front wheel. I ended up third across the line, I may have been able to take second but the slight hesitation as I watched him juggle his pump was too much. At least he kept it off the tarmac.
All in all a great ride with no drops, good people, and the attitude that hey after a good ride, good food and a cold beer. I look forward to the next ride.

Jackson Patrick...sure is growing up!

Had his four month wellness appointment this week and he now weighs 14 pounds 14.75 ounces. He is in the 50th percentile for his weight and 75th percentile for his height. Go figure...He is getting a great little personality, smiling, talking, and he had found his thumb (thanks Charlee Ann)! We fed him his first baby cereal the other night, he did pretty well with it just did not quite know what to think about the whole spoon thing. And wow that boy can take some poops the size of Texas, makes your eyes water.
Jackson is great and so are we. We will be heading back to MO August 7th -14th for a little R&R. Actually it will be a whirlwind trip, trying to see everyone and squeezing in my 20th class reunion. Yes, I am old, but fun! See everyone soon.

Carolina in the News

Good news that is, a couple of professional wine tasters were on the Today show a couple of weeks ago conducting a taste test of 12 public drinking water samples from across the nation. The verdict...Columbia SC tied for runner up with Boston for best tasting tap water. Salt Lake took top honors.

So good is our tap water, and I must say it is really good, that the Pepsi Co purchases millions of gallons annually to use as their Aquafina product. That is right, every time I turn on the tap out flows Aquafina...at a lot better price! Now I am sure they put the water through some super secret filtering process but it is still our tap water.

Catching up

Life has been pretty crazy here in Cola for the last couple of weeks, in a good way. We had our great friend Julie and her boy's in for a weeks vacation with the Inmon clan. It was really great to see and spend some quality time with her and the boy's. For those of you that don't know her, you should, she is truly a great person, and a damn fine veterinarian I might add. If you are in need of a quality, talented, professional vet with a great bedside manner, and sense of humor who is a Mizzou grad, she is the one for you! You and your animals will appreciate her. Just go to Banfield Pet Hospital (?) next to Petsmart on Glenstone and tell her Steve sent you. She would love to see you and your babies. She took great care of all our family animals.

I have some pics for you to enjoy of their trip and the shenanigans we had here in Cola as well, of course, new photos of our Jackson. The photos at the top are of from their time spent in Mytrle Beach at Ripley's Aquarium, and finally their arrival home in Cola. The boy's are beat from a long day at the beach, water parks, and finally the aquarium. Some times the pictures are worth more than my senseless ramblings, so enjoy.

Cale Mac...help!

Alright Cale, I have an idea...instead of dressing up in all your camo, trying to find the perfect spot for your tree stand, fighting the weather, and getting up before dawn, why don't you come on down to Cola. You can set up post on our back deck have some coffee and wait for the deer to show up on our backyard. No muss no fuss! They enjoy eating our flowers, hostas, and the final straw is that they are nudging our bird feeder to get out the seed. I couldn't figure out how the birds were going through it that fast. Now I know! Too slow with the camera to catch them in the act.

Also, I did not want you to feel like you were the only one who's WT roots run deep. How about the race at Daytona Saturday night!

Another couple of thoughts and pictures...sunrise in our neighborhood last Saturday morning as I was riding my bike. And could not leave out the pics of Jackson before we took him for a walk Sunday morning sporting his new baby shades.

Week in Review

Last week brought a holiday midweek to celebrate the birth of the USA. We had a great day starting with coffee, breakfast, the paper, and of course playing with Jackson. After breakfast we hooked up Jackson's bike trailer to the "Big Rolling Turd", and with a few modifications were able to secure his car seat to the safety straps in the trailer. We then suited up and headed out for his first bike/trailer ride around the neighborhood. Good news, he loved it! And quite a workout pulling him up the hills I might add. From there we got in a little pool time, trip to the grocery for beverages and supplies for the cook out with the neighbors. We had a great time, good company, great food, cold beer, and fun fireworks. Terri made the best looking dessert ever, pretty tasty too. By the way, Jackson says "I'm too sexy for my shirt"!

Friday I took after Scotty and worked from my office at home, very productive, two windows, one monitor, but no pics. Too messy.

I would also like to say a special hello to some new readers. Patty, Penny, Deb, Janice, and Judy. Girlfriends of my Mom. Great news Patty, good to hear you are "normal"! We will keep you in our prayers.

Saturday was bike riding day for the Inmon's. I left first for an hour spin around the Carolina countryside out Northeast of our neighborhood. The ride stats were pretty in line with last weeks debacle, a little shorter distance, but a little quicker average speed. Still at the speed of slow! But it felt really good to get out and enjoy the hot, humid day. I met a couple of guy's last week that were informing me of the number of race teams in Columbia, at least three teams that race and two to three more that are more in line with Springbike club. We have a Tuesday Night Worlds Crit ride, Wednesday "track" night, (come on down Pro Brad and show these guys a thing or two) numerous weekly night rides, a couple of 5:45 a.m. rides, the Friday night Beer ride. The Wednesday track ride takes place on a historic old NASCAR race track named the Old Columbia Speedway. Richard Petty got his first win here, names like Fireball Roberts, Ned Jarrett, Ralph Earnhardt, and Lee Petty all got there first taste of racing on this track. What I am eluding to is that there is enough riding around here to get your "daily" fix if time would allow. As soon as I get my lame ass in better shape I will jump into some of the group rides.

After I finished up my yard work Terri took Tanner and Charlee on a ride around the neighborhood. We have some great paved trails that run along all of the roads throughout Lake Carolina, just like the Greenway trails in Swingtown. Midway through their ride they pulled over for a little ice cream treat in the town Center before heading back home. Now that is the way to ride! Charlee Ann is going to be just like Terri, very head strong and competitive. At the bottom of this pretty big hill Terri was helping push Charlee up when suddenly Charlee yells "I can make this hill!" Adios baby, she powered off and left Terri and Tanner in her dust! Afterwards I asked her if she had a name for her bike, she said not yet but looked at her purple bike and proclaimed her "flower". Nice name, very good, what should I call my bike? She wasn't very sure, said she better take a look at it. After studying it for a few seconds it came to her...Big Rolling Turd! Now I don't know if she was really referring to me or the bike, but she loved it, couldn't stop laughing.

Now keep in mind we had just recently watched the movie RV where the kids in the show call the motor home a BRT, but pretty funny anyway. So I go from my previous Specialized bike aptly named "Old Blackey" to a "big rolling turd". There you have it sports fans! Enjoy the pics of the BRT, and the kids in action on their bikes. Off to blow up some fireworks with the kids.

The Ride

Well this was nothing like the notorious Wednesday night cleaner but I felt like I was dropped like a hot rock, and I rode by myself....Let me start by saying that Cale you were right about the weather except you were about a month off. I remember a post back in maybe December that I wrote while sitting out on my deck having a beer enjoying the 57 degree temps at night while back in MO you all were in the frozen tundra without power. Well welcome to the South. Sunday morning my ride greeted me with a temp of 70 degrees and only 90% humidity at 7:00 a.m. I would have been smart to leave then, however I wanted to have breakfast with the family, drink my coffee, read the paper, and by 11:00 actually threw my leg over the saddle and headed out. I did not bother to look at the temp or the humidity at that time, it didn't matter. Hell I worked up a huge sweat in the garage just pumping up the tires! The ride was actually a lot of fun, I rode at the speed of slow most of the time just enjoying the scenery. As you can tell by the pics it is a good thing I don't have a power meter like you big boy's, I'm not sure that anything would have registered on it...All in all I felt pretty good, especially my knee, and it is really weird to breathe through my nose now. I found myself breathing through my mouth most of the time just due to old habits. The worst thing was getting used to the saddle again, wow, that will take some time for my body to acclimate again. Probably doesn't help that I weight in now at the 200 mark. But I really love the Alliante, hope that they do not discontinue that model. I had to laugh at myself at one point in the ride, my legs felt like I had a twenty pound medicine ball attached to each foot. I just could not get into a rhythm. I even looked down to see if my rear brake was rubbing, then stopped and got off to make sure the wheel was in the dropouts correctly (it was). Ironically it was in front of this really cool stable of racing/jumping horses. Technical term there, not a horse guy, but this farm appears to have all the equestrian garb, track, barriers for jumping, etcetera. And they possess a hell of lot more horsepower than I can produce on the Trek. Which reminds me of a group ride we did a few years ago (when I rode all the time, for me) out towards Fair Grove in Pro Brads neck of the woods. There was this massive incline of a hill, albeit short, after a sketchy downhill due to country potholed roads where old Petey at A&B and another rider actually had to unclip and walk up it, but I made it! Small victories for me. At the top we all regrouped and started out again back toward Springfield. To our right there were probably 6-8 playful horses in a pasture. As we rode by they all took out with us running the fence line for what seemed like a half a mile. That was the coolest thing I have ever experienced on a ride. You could actually feel the beating of their hooves on the ground in your chest. All the while they where snorting, whinnying, and enjoying the race.

First day in the pool

This weekend the family headed to the neighborhood pool for Jackson's first foray into the water. Well, he took to it like the proverbial fish. Just floated around with me talking up a storm.

As you can tell by the pics he was very seriously checking out big brother and sister splashing around, but once in he was great. Gotta love the swim suit! The first set of pictures are of bath time after the pool with help from Charlee Ann. Sorry about the picture order. Need to figure out this placement thing...

Twenty eight years ago yesterday, 6/21/1979, my Dad lost his gallant four year battle with cancer and went to spend eternity with God. Dad was born 5/31/1940 and in his short life touched the lives of many people. He was first and foremost a husband and father, then a son, a brother, a friend, a builder, a developer, a race car driver, a fisherman, and forever my hero. You meant so much to so many, but not as much as this boy will ever let go in his heart. I wish you were here today to see your wonderful grandchildren, Kaiser, Tanner, Charlee Ann, and Jackson Patrick. And of course, my wife, Terri.

Dad, you will be forever missed. I still have your Simpson fire suit you raced in that I was wearing on your Chevy hot rod as a young boy, however I have out grown you! I am sure you have a smile on your face looking down from Heaven upon us. Here is to you Dad, this cold beer is for you! I love and will forever miss you!

I can see clearly now the drugs are gone...

I'm back, back from the fresh effects of anesthesia and five days full of percocet. Man that stuff sucks! I really don't see how people get hooked on that drug. Just give me a nice frosty cold Delirium Tremmens, a little satellite radio, my wife on the back deck with me, and that is all I will ever need. Well today I met with the good Doc to have the "splints" removed from my nostrils. I wish now I would have thought ahead and taken the digi cam to show you what they looked like. Unbelievable...so let me tell you. I think I was more nervous about the removal than I was about the surgery. At least during surgery I was completely out, but for this little procedure, absolutely nothing. Just me gutting it out. So he gives me this pink dish and tells me to hold it under my nose while his nurse held the light saber leading the way into my nose. He tells me that this will really not be too bad, just a quick sharp pain and a slight pull. Hmmm, then why am I holding the pink drip dish? Shouldn't I be wearing a bib to cover my shirt and tie?

Then suddenly a quick prick and a pull and it is out of my nose and before I have time to flinch he has the other side out.

Upon further review, these things were about as long as my little finger, slightly curved, about the width of my little finger with a tube running down one side to promote air flow. Good Lord, no wonder I had a splitting headache the whole time. But wow, I can really breathe. After next Tuesday I can go back to normal activities. Should be 100% in about four weeks.

For those of you who may need this surgery, go ahead and have it done, I highly recommend it.

On a baby note, our boy Jackson is now up to 13 pounds. Enjoy a few pictures of him. Really enjoys his new walker just not quite tall enough yet to reach the ground, check out the thighs of a future sprinter. And he has found his tongue.

Surgery

Septoplasty, Turbinectomy, and Nasal Vestibular Stenosis, to be exact. Had the pleasure of experiencing this procedure last Tuesday. Doc said that the surgery went very well. Said the left side of my nose was shaped like an S. Not very conducive to breathing. But all should be good to go in about three weeks. The only real visible indication of having the surgery is the blood you see around the end of my nose and slight swelling. Have been pretty miserable most of the week. I have had a splitting headache that is due to the splints that they have shoved into both sinus cavities. Percocet seems to numb the pain but it keeps me awake at night. I really don't like this stuff, don't see what the big deal is, just makes me goofy and out of sorts. Not fun! I can already breathe through the left nostril, something I have not done in forever. The doc said that this will be a "Wow" surgery, meaning once this is healed you will go wow, I can really breathe, I hope he is right.

Not much else to report here in Cola, it has been in the high nineties all week, Jackson is getting bigger (check out his fat little legs). Pretty cool now that he smiles all the time, makes little noises, blows bubbles, sticks out his tongue, and is just the cutest little boy ever!

Sunday ramblings

Ahhh the sweet smell of rain, finally. We have been in a drought situation for the entire month of May. Conditions became so bad that the entire Northeast section of Richland County was put on water rationing and a boil order. Not because of lack of water, but because of poor water pressure. Seems that the County and the developers have been moving way too fast and did not quite plan well enough for the demand that "they" created. Now officials are scrambling to put in new 48 inch water lines and a pumping station that can actually handle the demand. Little backasswards don't you think? And while we are on the topic of development, I attended my first public officials forum this week to discuss the traffic issue with the main artery that leads to our neighborhood. Again...developers and the County building homes, and apartments for families but not quite THINKING through the whole process of ingress and egress for the thousands of families that live out here and have to use the TWO lane road without shoulders! But I digress.

Big thanks go out to my Mom, Jan, for coming out to visit us in our new home. It took us moving half way across the country to get her out of the house but this is hopefully a trend we will see continue. I promise you more time in Charleston next visit as well as a little beach time! We had a great visit, the kids could not wait to see Granny Jan and she did her level best to spoil Jackson Patrick. I would have to say she succeeded.

Interesting supplement in The State (local newspaper) today. The official 2007 South Carolina Hurricane Guide...must say that is a first for me. At least we can prepare for these unlike the tornado's back in MO. Apparently the rain we have had this weekend it from the tropical depression off the coast. Should be interesting...

Our boy is now up to about 11.5 pounds according to my bathroom scale. Enjoy the latest pictures of him and Granny Jan when she came to visit. Tanner and Charlee had a blast making her sign.

Hey everyone,

Today is a very special day for several reasons. Three very great men have birthday's today. Well two really...but Jackson is nine weeks old today, so we will run with that.

Today marks the birth of my dad, Sonny Inmon, and my buddy since about 7th grade, Randy Smith. Two of the greatest guy's ever!

It is really hard to believe that my Dad has been deceased now for almost 28 years. Cancer really sucks! He would have turned 67 today. I would have loved to have sat out on my back deck and shared a cold Michelob with him watched him bounce Jackson on his knee. For all of you who knew him, take a moment to remember his big smile, kind heart, warm laugh, and ornery attitude. Guy's, seriously, do me a favor, after you read this post, call your fathers and tell them you love them, if you don't love them at least call them to say hello. Take advantage of what you have today, because you never know what may be gone tomorrow.

Okay, sorry, didn't mean to get so heavy hearted with such a happy title post. But happy birthday Dad, I love you!

That goes for you too Smitty, hope you had a great day and were able to hook up with the usual suspects for a happy birthday beer; you old goat! About time you caught up to Hilgers and I!

When we get back to Swingtown in August I will buy you a belated birthday beer, or two.

Happy two month B-Day Jackson

Holy cow! It seems like only yesterday that he was making his way out of the womb!
We met with the Doc today and he is progressing well. Now in the 25 percentile for his age group. Now keep in mind those measurements are based on bottle fed babies which typically gain weight at a faster pace than those whom are breast fed. But I digress, I am not too concerned with the percentages...If you look at the BMI charts (Body Mass Index) I am obese. Therefore...whatever, as long as he and I are healthy that is all that matters.

Well it has been too damn long since last post and I am not really sure where to start. So I will let you know, Casey, Jackson has not yet grown a beard...the postings have been slow but not that slow. More like how slow I am on the bike right now. Anyway I wanted to get back to our trip with Aunt Debbie to Folley Beach. If you remember I was going to tell you the story about Tanner and his off road adventure. It all started out when we decided to walk down the old road out to the lighthouse on Folley Beach. The road has been closed for years but there are still some old concrete foundations scattered about the roadway. It is really interesting to imagine what they used to be, old trader buildings, government buildings, slave trader dwellings, or maybe an old saloon or two? Who knows? Well Tanner found a big walking stick and decided to go off road and do a little exploring. All was well until we heard the faint, slightly scared voice calling out for Mom. As we looked back to see Tan we spied him walking very gingerly among the flora, never taking his eyes off of the ground. When he finally made it to concrete we were stunned to see that he had jumped into a field full of nasty Cacti. Click on the pictures to see how big these damn things were. And to top it off they were like Velcro, every time you tried to pry one off of his pants they would stick to you! Thank God that his flip flops had a leather foot bed to them or it could have been really worse. But Tan is a tough little guy, never shed a tear, never complained. What a trooper. If my big arse would have been with him in my $1.98 Wal-Mart special flip flops I would have been in serious trouble. But his cat like reflexes saved his skinny little butt.

We have a lot to catch you all up on but this it for now. Have to go take care of my little man. He is two months old today, or for all you mom's out there...8 weeks old. He is now up to the big weight of 10 pounds and three ounces. But very unhappy about having to get five shots this morning. Can't blame him. More pictures to come. And by the way...just wanted to let you know how lucky I am to have such a wonderful, beautiful family. I have been truly blessed.

Reinforcements...a.k.a....Aunt Debbie!

Round two of the Cavalry arrived last week in the form of Aunt Debbie, Terri's sister. We can't thank you enough! Feel free to "move" back anytime. We could use another night of you and Jackson spending the night together. Wow, great sleep! Terri and Debbie were able to get out on the town and do a little bonding with Jackson in the form of shopping and eating. Better get him trained now because later in life, much later, he will meet a girl and she will drag him all over Cola shopping. Get used to it my little man.

The family had a very busy weekend. Friday night Terri, Debbie, Tanner, and Charlee went to see Kenny Chesney in concert. Jackson and I dropped them off and headed back home for a little guy time. I fed him, changed his diaper, got him dressed for bed, turned on the Speed Channel to catch up on a little Nascar, he got comfy laying on my chest and next thing I know the phone is ringing and the race is almost over and it is time to go pick up the family from the concert. Well at least we got in a good three hour nap together! They had a great time at the concert, Sugerland opened for Kenny, great show.

Saturday morning we packed up the motor home and headed for the coast. Folley Beach to be exact. A great area just outside of Charleston. Beautiful beach, beautiful day, great fresh seafood that night. Check out the next post, I will go into detail about Tanner's off road hiking adventure. Holy cow, poor boy. Headed back home late Saturday evening to complete a great day trip. Check out the latest pictures. The first photo is the pre-Kenny concert, next is of Terri and Jackson enjoying some evening time on the back deck, and some of our trip to the beach.

Need to run, and get some sleep. Debbie, thank you again. We really appreciate you coming down and helping out with Jackson, the diapers, the feedings, the house, the laundry, the dishes, the vacuum, the projects, well you all get the idea. We already miss you, come back soon!

Catching up...first round of the Cavalry arrived

Hey everyone,

Too much time has passed since last post. Been very busy with family and work. But I wanted to catch up and say a huge thanks to Jeff, Melanie, Brenden, Meghan, and my new buddy Carson. You big lug you! The Klenke Clan paid a visit to the Inmon family a few weeks ago and big fun was had by all. Parents too! We did dinner and drinks, bike rides, zoo visit, Edventure kids museum, grilling out, savored the "juices of love" (Rent-A-Rita), watched sports, played games, Brenden and Tanner played a lot of video games, hung out on the back deck, sampled some of Cola's great food, (the Mellow Mushroom has great pizza), rode bikes again....You get the idea. We truly had a great time and look forward to them coming back to town. Meghan, we wanted to thank you again for our great shells you collected for us from the beach. They look great as a center piece on our dinner table. Jeff and Melanie, thank you for all you did for us. You were both a great help with everything around the house and Jeff...Thanks for the guy time. Come on back for a cold beer and Sports Center anytime.

The Charlie Brown

I am sitting here early Sunday morning contemplating what to write listening to the torrential downpour, savoring my Seattle's Best coffee (not Starbucks) and keeping my eye on the Weather Channel. We are under both a tornado warning, and watch for the next hour or so. I thought we left that crap when we moved from "Tornado Alley" in Missouri? At least we have not had snow, hail, and sub thirty degree temps like you in MO.

Friday night after work I geared up and headed to the shop for the Friday night beer ride. I was really excited to meet some new cyclists and check out the riding conditions on the post at Fort Jackson, not to mention enjoying a cold beer afterwards down at Five Points. But much to my dismay...I was the only one to show up! I could not believe it, the conditions were perfect for a ride, sunny and 75, no wind, and finishing with a cold beer...I arrived five minutes early and waited for almost 30 minutes, that sucked! Hope things turn out differently next week.

Now to expand on the title of this post. Charlie Brown is my friend and neighbor who lives across the street from us. Charlie is a military man, Colonel, I believe, husband, and father of one third grader Lexie. Charlie is an avid triathlete, and adventure racer, and will beat your ass in any trivia game you can think of! Charlie and I decided we would take an early Saturday morning ride, probably an hour or so I thought. If you have read my previous post my big ride for the season was a whopping 14.79 miles at a blazing average speed of about the same.

The conditions again were perfect for riding. Sunny and a cool 51 degrees at ride start with relatively no wind. We began out of our neighborhood and headed into the Carolina countryside. There is something very calming about riding through forests of tall pines with the occasional blooming Dogwood or Red bud growing beneath. But the calmness was soon shattered by the all too familiar sound of dogs in hot pursuit. Thank God we did not have a Dunsmuir incident. Charlie was pretty impressed by my dog defender tactic. Simply opening my big mouth and yelling as loud and as mean as possible, NO! That gets their attention, kind of messes with their heads, they usually slow down, stop, or tilt their heads to the side thinking what the hell!
After what must have been about three or four of the damn chasers we met the big one. Big Damn Blackie. He is a black lab with a head as big as a basketball. I was pulling us along (the only time I pulled) down a straight road with a slight decline at about 25 miles per hour. (I did say slight decline). When suddenly I spy Big Blackie coming at us from the front off of my left shifter. Usually they come at you from behind nipping at your ankles. Not Big Blackie, he had other things on his mind. I thought to myself in a brief fleeting second, oh shit this is going to be ugly. Charlie is in my draft down on his aero bars and we are both going to hit the deck. I yelled as loudly as I could NO and I'll be dammed Blackie put on the emergency brakes dropped his ass to the ground and literally slid to a stop within a foot of my left Nike. Now that will get your heart rate up, not that I needed my heart rate any higher, but wow!

Despite the dogs, we had a great ride. Charlie is strong, says that was only his third ride of the season. Well I should mention that he runs on an almost daily basis and throw in a couple of swims each week, well you get the picture. He pulled my lame butt the entire time except for our Blackie incident. I will get stronger and return the favor mark my words.

When we pulled back into the neighborhood an hour and 53 minutes later we had logged in 30.19 miles. Now I don't have any cool bar graphs like Skippy or Scotty D, nor a power meter. But here are the approximate results from my new Sigma computer. I am too comfy to go out to the garage and look at the actual. 30.19 miles, ride time 1:53, average speed 17.7 mph, average cadence 87. My Nike heart rate monitor is broken, so I will just say really high!

Looking forward to more great rides in the Carolina countryside. Just remembered, I am going to try and get down to a stage of the Tour of Georgia this week. If so, hope to get some great pictures and interesting commentary.

Thursday afternoon

Well I have spent the greater part of the week working from the home office so that I can help Terri and the baby, and let me tell you, I could get used to this. Jackson is doing much better now and has actually gained about 6 ounces from where we were last Friday. Very good News!

The weather today was absolutely beautiful in Cola; temps in the low 70's but the winds were gusting at about 20 miles per hour. Late in the morning Terri came up to the office and told me she was heading out for a bike ride. That meant that Jackson and I were in for a little guy time, too bad he was sleepy, or it could have been MSNBC that put him to sleep. After Terri got back in it was my turn for a lunch spin. I headed out of the neighborhood on some sketchy roads, but soon found some great blacktop with a nice shoulder just wide enough for a cyclist. I followed the white ribbon for what felt like a hundred miles, but unfortunately, managed only 15. I used to ride pretty well (the guys in the club may think differently) could hold my line, take long pulls on the front, but I found myself today felling a bit out of sorts. I actually found myself thinking...for the love of Pete, hold your line man! Looks like I need some more time in the saddle!

Is is almost hump day???

Where does the time go? When you live your life in three hour blocks of time the day becomes a blur. Not much to report that is very exciting here in Cola right now. I took Tan and Charlee Ann to meet with their Dad for Spring Break on Sunday after our Easter day, and will pick them up this weekend. Mom and Dad Inmon are tired but doing well. Jackson has had a tough past week. We/he had to endure more than enough doctors appointments in that time frame. The worst occurred Friday when I was at work. Terri took him and the kids to a specialist to check on his eyes because he looked like Rocky after getting his ass handed to him by the big Russian. Turns out he had both tear ducts completely blocked. Not fun...doc had to take a probe and insert it into the tear ducts and run it all the way down his nasal cavity. Needless to say very painful, for him and Mom. But all looks better now. He and Mom are very tough.

Have some new pictures to post of the little man. We broke out the new tub from Granny Jan today, works really well. Too bad I am so tall, Terri appears to give a good sponge bath. I also came up with the concept of using the hair dryer during diaper changing. So far so good. By the way, I thought I had seen just about everything after living in the fraternity house, but I can now say that I have been spit up on, and peed on. Lets hope I am quick enough to dodge the big duke if it comes flying my way during a diaper change. Can you tell who is crazy about her little brother? If I had a nickel for every time she has kissed him, well I would have a hell of a lotta nickels! Hope you enjoy. Gotta run and try to get some sleep before we are up again in two hours...

US Cycling Road Race...Nationally Televised!

Hey guys,
Found this...U.S Open Cycling Championship will be Nationally televised today on NBC. Same day coverage will begin at 2:30 p.m. est-5:00 est. Sounds like they have issues early this morning however, appears wet, and snowy conditions may postpone the start. But hopefully they can get the race in and still be televised today. Pretty cool that cycling is getting some recognition on a national basis.

Had a ride planned this morning with my neighbor, however 36 degree temperatures have postponed the ride. Discovered a cool group ride yesterday, I should fit right in. Here are the details:

Fridays are the home of the Beer Ride, which meets both in front of Cycle Center on Harden Street and at Outspokin a little after 6 p.m. The groups join together in Fort Jackson for less than 20 miles at a fairly relaxed pace social ride to end the workweek. Again, this is a no-drop ride, and the group stops to wait for slower riders. Perhaps Columbia's best-known ride, you can find everyone from racers to weekend warriors and families with children in trailers. The ride terminates in Five Points at Bar Non(e) - hence the name - and has been known to feature beer during as well as after the ride.

We are off this morning for our neighborhood Easter Egg hunt and an appearance by the Easter Bunny!

Alright it is late in Cola, about 11:00, hopefully Jackson will not wake up in about 10 minutes.
